Human-Animal Relations in a French Rural Community

Project Statement

Human-Animal Relations in a French Rural Community

This project explores attitudes towards the ethical treatment of animals / animal welfare issues on farms in western France. There has been a movement towards the re-establishment / rejuvenation of small-scale agricultural producers in recent years, away from agri-business, with more small-scale producers raising animals and selling animal products in local markets. Students will explore the reasons behind this movement and the role of animal welfare issues. It will allow them to understand more about local markets in France and the ‘farm to fork’ movement, as well as larger issues of sustainable food production and animal welfare.
